When i get my chickens i plan on also get some water birds (not sure yet),but their is a huge pond where i live and well my coisions fish alot on it because thier are alot of fish (they do not like to share the pond that much) well they kill the baby tutrules (snappers sometimes but maily harmless one) for no good reson.but i am afaird of not only what they would do but their 'dog' get off their land and well that 'dog' HATES me and they do not understand that and that a tiny rope will not hold her off that she need to be re-home(and i'll feel sorry if they have to) or have how own cage outside to play and roam but i am afaid for my new anaimls (my small dog crosses barly and wach me or my brother if we cross) but unlike their 'dog' (and rember i use '' around dog) that go past our house and close to the hightway.i do not want to tell her she got hit.
Is their anything that i should do and plese rebemer this pond is super deep and its really long in size and i try showing my coision-and i hightlight the part-of anaiml laws when i was seaching for more chicken/other livestock laws and read the part about dauges dogs and they do not take the hints i been leaving and they do not get it and if she theanting me AGAIN i may call the cops.....or my pear tree will not only be breaking chicken poo

Not to sound rude, but I am having trouble figuring out what you are asking exactly.

When you say water birds, do you mean geese, ducks, swans, cranes, egrets?

Before you get your chickens, you do need to get the dog issue settled. Make sure you have a sturdy coop and fence up. If you see their dogs on your property, tell your neighbors. If they do not listen, the next time the dogs are on your land, call animal control. That should get their attention that something needs to be done.

I hope that is what you were asking...

The dog issues need to be resolved before you have free-range flocks running about, or you won't have free-range flocks for long. A marauding dog can wipe out an entire flock in one go. I know this from experience.

As far as the turtles go- are we talking about snappers? A snapping turtle can be very dangerous to waterfowl. They will try to kill any birds that float close enough to them. Even if they don't manage to kill the birds there are usually some nasty leg injuries that need to be attended to. I would recommend that you allow your cousins to keep killing them if you eventually want to have a somewhat safe pond for your birds to be in.

Good luck.

i really don't want them to free rage yet, because of all the cats but...my water-fowls may be ducks or Geese and one day maybe a Swan-i don't know yet-the turtles are snappers and just little harmless ones-there are easy to tell apart and use to help keep the snakes in there place.the dog may just be a pain in the butt no matter what i do but i will kill that 'dog' if it touch one of my anaimls again because she already killed most of a litter of kittens that a cat give birth outside.i try telling my coision about her they know what she dose but they have exuse no matter what

If there are "little harmless" snapping turtles there, then there are adults there. Little turtles do need parents to produce them. Yes snapping turtles are dangerous to waterfowl, but it sounds as if a far greater danger is your cousins' dog. That is a situation that needs to be resolved before getting fowl of any sort.

Sounds like you shouldn't get anything with that dog around, no offence but if he killed a litter of kittens, that's BAD, he will wipe out any water fowl or chicken you get, and you can think that maybe you can control him and he won't get to them, trust me he will get the chance, he will get out, they will get out, it's going to happen.

I agree with the above posters. The dog is bad news. I would make it clear to your cousins that their dog is NOT allowed on your property. Unless you are young and this is your parent's property than you make the rules. If they do not want to follow your rules then they do not have to fish on your pond.

Also Snappers are a danger to waterfowl, they will injure or kill them. Just something to consider as well before you decide on waterfowl (ducks, geese, swans). You may be able to fence off a part of the pond to help keep the snappers out but allow waterfowl access to water. Depending on the size of the holes in the fence, smaller fish would still be able to get through.
