should my 8 wk olds be following my 16 wk olds into the coop?

So since you feel safe leaving pop door open, I would do this: push them into the coop at night (preferably roost, if safe to do so) and leave the pop door open or partially open. When it's completely dark there shouldn't be too many roost rumbling issues, but with the door open, the chicks can hightail it out of there if need be once sunrise comes.

Update... I built a real nice "lower" roost on the end of the coop farthest from where the other birds roost. Unfortunantly that is pretty close to the pop door. After 2 night the 3 young birds refused to use it and still roosted in the pop doorway!! Kind of fuuny to watch. The younger domoniques like to go to bed first so they are sitting in the popdoor opening when the bigger birds come up the ladder to get to their roost in the coop. Kinda reminds me of The Alamo!! They tried to hold their position...but got run over!!
