Putting it on ground level is fine, check out links for Deep Litter Method for bedding. And make sure you bury hardware cloth around the outer parimeter of the coop so critters can't dig their way in.

Got any picts of the coop?

As long as nothing can dig under your coop-you don't really HAVE to have a floor in there.
Just my opinion here, but I have a dirt floor in the coop and I really don't like it. DH and I are going to pour concrete in there as soon as he can get to it-too hard to try to keep it clean without some sort of flooring.

we have a wood floor on the coop, and dirt/sand run. we use straw bedding and a bit of DE for dryness, and the floor is so easy to clean with a scoop shovel or pitch fork - only takes a couple of minutes to clean the entire coop and the wood stays dry and clean. the small cracks between the boards let any water from the waterer drain and then dry.

Thank You, I will have to post some pictures of it. A frame design small 5'x 4' x 5' wide run, I think I may put a floor in it it would only save on head aches in the future. I am very proud of it. Got the A frame design here on this site. Wife was not happy with the amount it cost. I was able to cut the cost even more with my design, so it will work until I can afford a better one. And the Chickens will be happy. Jon
