We have a chick working its way out of the egg, it is now night here and the room is dark. Should we leave the light on in the room or will it hatch in the dark?

OK, Thanks.

I always leave the light on for them. I think when I turn off the light, everything slows down. When I turn the flashlight on them while they are zipping, it seems to make them go faster.

I leave the light on because I also noticed the flashlight effect - they rock, pip and zip more enthusiastically when I shine a light directly on them.
Also I hate to think of coming out of the confines of an egg into the big wide world and it being dark, especially without a mother hen to reassure

Thank you for your wisdom. They hatch naturally in the dark. I try to keep them in the dark as much as possible for the first few days. This is the way mama hen would do it.

When mine are hatching at night, I leave the light off, because DH is sleeping..I use a flashlight..have to keep checking, can't sleep anyway!

So, hop up, flash the flashlight, and sure enough, it does seem to wake some of them up.

Then, lay back down, or go to the kitchen...
