Should you stop a hen being broody?

Tell me about it lol. Love the favs, are yours as sweet as mine :)

And that's our silkie when she was a chick. Used to say she looked part Emu chick lol

The favs are adorable! They're so nosy and always singing to me (one of them has really croaky voice though, always has, so she's not a great singer hahahah!). They are also so so soft and fluffy.

Awww she's adorable! I've only ever seen the white ones as chicks. She does look part emu haha!

I went to check on my broody hen (she's a silky mix...those bantam are just more prone to being broody!) this morning, beginning of day 2 of separation from the nest box/rest of the coop. She's still clucking when she walks, and she lets me pick her up (she just lays there instead of running away), which tell me she's still in broody mode.
I will keep you guys update...and if she stops being broody I'll be back to thank you guys for the advice

Hahaha! Good luck :) It took 3-4 days of being blocked from the nest for my goldtop to give up, I think.
When she first arrived she was so skittish, but because she was so docile when she was broody we could handle her a lot more and it really helped with her becoming as friendly as she is today :)

Good luck! I've never had it work less than 3 days so hang in there.

I think I will have two going to Alcatraz today if they are back on the nest again. Hopefully that will work okay being one isn't our silkie. Can't put her with anyone when she is broody as she becomes such a cranky little so and so.

This morning I let my broody hen back with the rest of the flock. I think the rest of the flock forgot who she was and she was pecking some, some were pecking her, running, screaming...what a fiasco! Anyway, I checked on her a few times and she was scratching and dust bathing and all the good stuff, so I get really pumped...but then I check on her 5 minutes ago and she's in a nest box! For a good 4 hours she was good, so it's definitely and improvement, but I guess she's just really dedicated. So I'm putting her back in isolation from the nest box. I wonder if one more day would work, or if I have to start over?

Just do another day. How many has she been apart now?

Mine are looking good so far, today is day 3. One looked at the nest box but didnt go in in the end. The other was straight back on. Ive seperated them both again anyway just to make sure and Ive never had it work properly under 3 days anyway.

I also let mine all in together again of a late afternoon when everyone has finished on the box and I can lock it and then they all sleep together on the roost. Ive never had problems with reintroducing after being seperated this way.

Just an update...let my broody hen in with the rest of the flock (and nest boxes) and she's no longer broody!! Back to normal. I'm pumped. Thank you guys for the help/advice!

You won't believe it!
So as I said I blocked the nestboxes off by putting a dog cage where the nestboxes would usually be.
My chickens then decided to fly up into the cage to lay their eggs, and that was fine, they've been doing that for quite a few weeks.
At the weekend I gave the coop a good clean and as my welsummer is almost unbroody I decided to put the nestboxes back down for the other girls and get things back to normal.... two days later... MY GOLDTOP IS BROODY AGAIN!
Have been turfing her outside every time, and as she just sits outside and the weather is cold now I thought sitting on the cold floor would unbroodify her........ nope.

It's October and cold now, why are my chickens so determined to be broody at this time?!
