should you wash eggs before setting them?

And if so, how and how much? Just wipe clean? Not necessary?

If they are REALLY filthy, then wipe with a dry cloth.

Don't wash them otherwise - you will destroy the bloom on the shell that acts as a barrier to protect the egg from bacteria entering through the pores.
 
You do not want to wash eggs your setting...clean them as best you can with a dry cloth and if they are too dirty you don't want to set them....
