That would be awesome if we could. Some threads get closed because of people that just jump in from nowhere and troll. I think it would be most excellent for the person who started the thread to be able to delete or edit posts on the thread they started. Does anyone else feel this way by chance? I demand freedom BYC!!!

Sometimes it is not easy and sometimes folks can take a one sided view on things. I think the mods are doing a great job. If you don't like what you see in your posts or threads, just let the mods know and they can "clean" it up for you if they see what's the problem.

Agreed. Can you imagine the indignant outcry from a cantankerous person whose posts were deleted by the OP?

We would love to have the whole forum be self moderated.

But with thousands of opinions and beliefs, this won't be possible.

Besides, if you all could moderate your own threads, what would we have to do?

First off, I am in "no way" saying that the mods are doing a bad job.

My point is sometimes flamers, or trolls jump in without them knowing and the mods or they close the thread because of them. It is definately not unheard of to mod your own threads, many forums do this. I just think it would save the mods a little time and keep many threads peaceful and open a bit longer than some of them are now. If I post about "helping my chickens" and then someone jumps in and sais, I love politics blah blah blah, the mods will close the thread.

Anyways it was just an idea...

We don't always just close the thread.

We clean up and reopen many more than we leave closed.

Sometimes a very long thread has so much to clean up that is not feasible to spend hours on it.

Remember we are all volunteers and have limited time to spend on the forum.

If a rules violation is reported immediately, instead of members quoting, requoting, responding, chastising or just posting a popcorn smiley waiting and watching for the train wreck, the problem can be dealt with immediately and quickly.

But when a report comes after pages and pages of egging it all on, it will take more time than we perhaps have at the time.

Remember that you can edit your own posts. If you feel that you have hit the "submit" button before thinking, you can always go in an edit it. Just hope no one quoted you.
