I'm still narrowing down my pick for the ducks I want to get. I think I'm going with a bantam breed. I have a 6'X15' chain link fenced dog run, will that do for 3 or 4 ducks? Also will they do well with just a kiddie pool? I will be letting them out to forage on 1 acre every day.

I love the looks of the mini silver appleyards and would like to know more about them. Do they fly and are they friendly?

Thanks, Marsha

They are far and away my most friendly ducks. There is no comparison (in my flock anyway). Mine have never flown, although they can. My Australian Spotteds are about the worst of my flyers, but I have never had one completely fly off.

That size of pen sounds fine as is using a kiddie pool.

OMG Marsha!

I am sosoooooo jealous! The 2 breeds of ducks that I WISH hubby would let me get would be the Mini Appleyards and Mardarins (both normals and white). One factor for me would be how loud they are or if they are relatively quiet. I know the little call ducks that I have seen at shows are so LOUD for such little ducks. Citychickers - can you comment on the 'loudness'?

Mine are not loud at all. Which is odd considering they were bred from White Calls and Khaki Campbells. Maybe they are just far enough removed from the Calls that they are not as loud. I don't have Calls to compare them to though, so it is hard to say how they compare.

That is plenty of room. We have the silver appleyard in call ducks. We have one duck that is quite loud and two others that aren't. It depends on the individual bird. Some of our grays and blacks are very loud. If you want to see some pictures then look at our website.
