I may get a lively discussion out of this one.
Which do you prefer? Either as a breeder or as a buyer.
I realize most folks and breeders are between categories, but which do you lean toward.
- First, by utility breeders I mean breeders who put color and some superficial traits in second place when selecting birds for breeding.(Visual is still selected for, but not strictly, or without the first place traits.) Utility first place traits would be things that matter outside an association show, like egg traits, personality, robust health, large gene pool, etc.
- Show breeders breed to meet the show association's judging book and may attempt to breed "pure bred' animals. Everything else is secondary.
- Note for the poll: F1 hybrids are the first generation offspring of two different pure-breeds, they are the end of the line goal and will not breed true if a second generation is attempted. They generally show good traits, great vigor and productivity. Rock-Cornish cross broilers and some Sexlink layers are examples.
