Good Afternoon All!
I was wondering if anyone has ordered eggs/chicks from my pet chicken? Any feedback welcome...We are backyard Chicken owners looking to play around in the show field. My son couldn't do the Lamb/Chicken deal through 4H because of what happens to them afterwards. We get very attached to our critters, so we decided to do our own thing and try the fun type of showing. Any input/suggestions welcome. Thanks y'all and GOD BLESS TEXAS!

I've ordered many chickens from mypetchicken and only got one decent looking chicken. Most online hatcheries dont care about quality and dont sell show quality chicks. Just normally eggs and when you do buy show eggs theres a BIG chance most of them wont even hatch and you could get a large amount of roos. If you want show quality birds i'd look into local breeders near you.

Thank you...I am having a hard time finding anyone around me, that's where I started. I have been searching the internet like crazy. Any suggestions how to find a good breeder?

I found a breeder not to far away from me by giving away some roos. We talked and she mentioned that she breeds chickens so now i get my birds from her. I'd go to a local feed store and ask around if anyone breeds or knows someone who breeds chickens

Go to poultrypress.com and subscribe, this is a monthly poultry show news paper that has breeder listings and also show reports of who is winning the shows. Most shows advertise their upcoming shows and you could find shows within driving distance and find birds for sale and make connections with breeders in your state/area. Word of advice, do not use the cutsie terms such as Roo, Girl, etc.... serious breeders will be intolerant of such terms and will expect serious fanciers to use proper terminology, i.e.: Cock - male bird one year of age or older, Cockerel - Male bird less than one year old, Hen - female bird one year old or older, Pullet - female bird less than one year of age. These terms have been used in poultry husbandry for hundreds of years and are used in both Standards of Perfection.
What breeds/varieties are you interested in? There are a great number of reputable breeders in Texas, many of whom I know personally.

Hi Kelly,
I hope you haven't abandoned this thread . It is very generous of Bo Garrett offer to help you find some stock. you should take him up on it. That's really nice of him.
Best,
Karen

Thank you so much! I will do that now. We have Orpington & Barred Rock as backyard members and absolutely love them. Looking to adding Sussex variety as a possible show bird Or Maybe the Lavender Orp.
