No and yes. Penciling is not sex-linked; however silver is. Mate to a gold-gene male and the sons will be silver, the daughters gold. Partridge would be the best choice as they will have the correct penciling.

so what you are saying is tht I should breed to the partridge I have on eggbid right now and that would make sexlinked babies?

would buff be considered a gold carrying gene?

I really like blues, lav, silvers, etc and am not that into the partdrige or gold look which is why after much back and forth I choose the grey to keep. Or should I just go willy-nilly and breed everything to my lavs lol could you imagine a penciled lav! how cool would that be.

in addition I heard that some lavender breeders use white to make the lav color better, I hd never heard of this before but have lots of whites and was wondering... I know thi is off topic...

I have used whites with my lavenders and had no problems. However thats because underneath the white they carry black. If your white birds carry something else (partridge ect.) then it won't work out.

With that said I know of several lavender breeders with completely different lines of whites where it has worked as good if not better than with black.

I know nothing of pencilling genetics, sorry

Yes, bred to partridge you would have sexlinked partridge and grey. Males would be golden (Ss) versus Silver (SS) or gold (ss), but females would be pure for the gene. However if you don't care for partridge, it makes no sense to breed to partridge--you should acquire a grey male.

Also, you prefer the "cooler" colours to the "hot" ones, and you'd end up with cool males and hot females--is that what you would want? Why would you want a sex-link? One generally wants them for abundant eggs, not exhibition breeding.

Yes, buff (which is not a gene, but a combination of many genes) carries gold, and that too would create a sex-link. However the penciling would be worse--you'd mess up both the buffs and the greys IMO.

oh I have a nice grey originally that was my plan. I really dont want sexlinks I was more curious than anything else. I am going to breed her to my grey roo (have one from the same set of eggs as she was from, and then later to a lavender for fun

the partridge is already being bid on so I will not have him anymore come Monday which is fine anyway.

I am charging up my camera now to take pics of the other SG I especially like my culumbian pattern girl
