Tonight I'm going to pick out my daughter's first show lamb. I know NOTHING about sheep! I was raised on a cow and horse ranch. Apparently, it has to go from cutesy lamb to a 150lb hulking mass by August. Any tips??

First of all, it isn't going to be a little lamb. It is going to be what they call a feeder. The best advice I can give you is to get the lamb from someone reputable who can help you. Even if you don't know anything about sheep, you do know something about livestock. Look for physical soundness and good conformation. Like you don't want a roached back, both legs coming out of the same hole, buck knees, a misaligned jaw, etc. One thing to be aware of, is that if an animal is narrow in the muzzle it is going to be narrow all the way back the length of the body. So start with a nice strong head and go from there.

Thanks! I think we did pretty good.
