Anybody got any chicks hatching this week? We're looking for a few extras, I've got a broody sitting on some eggs, but I think only 2 stand a chance of hatching. It would be nice to all meet up at a Missouri swap sometime!
If none of Mongo's eggs hatch, I still might be interested in purchasing a few. She was absolutely determined to be broody... we tried taking eggs away... we tried putting her in a wire cage... but she's one determined Cochin. Granted, this is my first real broody hen, but I think at this point the only good way to end it is to make sure she either hatches or adopts some chicks.
Do you ever make it to the lincoln county livestock auction? The wife and I might go to one soon, it would be fun to meet other ppl with chickens in the area.

Is that the one in Silex? I live pretty close to there, but I haven't made it to one yet because I work overnights Fri-Mon. I will probably put my chicks on craigslist and if they don't sell there then I may take them to the auction. I want to let them get a little bigger tho, because I may keep a few for myself and I'm curious to see how they mature!
yeah, that's the one in silex. We won't make it to this one, but may make it to the next one.
Our local farm supply will have chicks this week, so we're saved! I'm going to pick up a few buff orpingtons, a few banties, and maybe even a few cornish-rockcross just to see how they do.
Hi. New to this. I'm in Lawrence County. Starting back into raising animals again. Had 36 rabbits, Had a heart attack in dec. 2006, and we had a ice storm in Jan 2007 that took a limb aout of a tree and fell aon the building I was raising rabbits in and lost them all. Now I'm back with 5 RIR, 25 chicks which are 3 weeks old, an 4 goats, one Buck, one Doe and her two kids. Between me and my wife and daughter we also have 6 dogs, 3 cats, gold fish and 2 ferrets. We love animals. Thats why I love country living.
I remember that ice storm. Had a tree narrowly miss my coop. I'm sorry to hear about your bunnies and I hope you are doing well after your heart attack. Chickens are addictive, so be careful......lol. This is a great site to be on if you are new. I have learned so much. Good luck with everything and welcome to BYC!
