Chis can be merle...but I don't think its recognized by any registry. Merle is a "lethal dominant".....though not truly lethal generally....heterozygous merles (animals with one copy of the gene) don't have any problems, but animals that are homozygous (2 copies of it) tend to have hearing and/or sight problems along with other health issues... merles should never be bred to merles.

There was speculation that the merle gene was introduced by someone breeding a merle dachshund to a chihuahua or something...

But beautiful nonetheless.
