Hi All -
I have never raised SLWs before, so I have no point of reference, but I have a sneaking suspicion that one of my babies is a little boy!

I can't post a pic because I still can't figure out how to do it even after all these years.

Anyway, can you guys show me some pictures so that I can compare? I know they are still young, but this one sure looks different...

Also, I thought SLWs were supposed to be sweet - I had the babies out with my adult Australorps the other day and the babies were really aggressive - even after the big girls tried to teach them some manners!

Here is a pic of my SLW cockerel at 31 days old. I will see if I can find one at 7 weeks, but I could tell at this age Skunky was a boy.

Hmm...that's about what I am looking at now. The others are starting to catch up a bit in appearance, so I'm still holding out hope for a girl!

Here is my SLW, Speckles, at 7 weeks old...she was and is my stalker chicken

Ruh-roh! It isn't looking good...it's so hard to hand raise them and then have to give the roos away. I still miss Prince Edward and I gave him away two years ago!

The kind folks on the forum helped me determine that my birds are acutally a SLW and Light Brahma cross. Here is my boy at about six weeks old. He has been crowing like a lunatic this last week! I suspect the bird on the right is also a roo. He has the same wide, red comb.

Here's another thought - as they have feathered out, the one that I have suspicions about is not looking like the others in that respect either. It's staying predominately black and has very few "laced" feathers. Again, having no prior experience with this breed I don't know if that is right or not either.
OK - I'm off to the camera shop to see if they can help me with the pics -

Here's my girl, Jezebel, when she was about 6 weeks. Her combs has always been reddish. She is very inquisitive, always following me around asking for treats, but she, unlike the RIRs and BOs, does not really want to be picked up or petted.

She also went through a time when she was mostly black, except for her head. Now, at 14 weeks, she is beautifully fathered. Her recent picture is my avatar.
