I need to find out the differences between these beauties and Sapphire Gems.

Andalusians are a pure breed that has been around for a long time. They are supposed to lay white eggs. They have a Mediterranean chicken breed with a slender body shape, a large comb, and white earlobes.

Sapphire Gems are a hybrid that has become popular in the past few years. They are supposed to lay brown eggs. They tend to look fatter than Andalusians, have earlobes that are red or a mixture of red & white, and their combs may be smaller. The males and females can usually be separated by color at hatch, because of the way the hybrid is created.

(There seem to be quite a few hybrids with blue feathers available recently, and what I say about Sapphire Gems may not be true for all of them, because there are so many ways to cross breeds and produce a blue-colored chicken.)

Thank you for all of that information Nat! I appreciate that. Looks like I want Andalusian just to be sure of that gorgeous look. I LOVE earlobes that stand out like they're wearing earrings ex. white and blue (Dutch Bantams) Thanks again so much
