Nice! I like the idea of the pvc feeders. More floor space than the floor chick feeders. However, it may also prevent them from feeding at the same time and cause some fighting to be the few to eat at once. Maybe a long trough one along a side would work better.. I also like the raised bed aspect of yours. It is a little rough on the back being bent over to clean the bedding in mine. I also wish i wouldve tried a hanging nipple waterer or something. They sure do make a mess out of the pine shavings in their waterer. Im having to clean it out a couple times a day. Plus its a headache having to fill and flip it each time. It'd be much more convenient to fill from the top without picking it up and moving it. Trial and error, trial and error...

Trial and error can be good learning tools! I also what YouTube videos and get ideas to improve my set up and make it less work and more enjoyment. Plus I want my flock to be happy and healthy as much as I can..

This is my dog crate brooder!
I have 10 chicks who hatched at the start of the week they are set up in the corner of our kitchen, where I work. They like to watch!

The crate was taller than in is wide, so to give a bit more space I set it up on its side. I've taken the tray out and lined the sides and base out with thick card appart from the front where they have a plexiglas window to watch the world. It's got two layers of puppy pads with an extra bit of pad below the waterer. The heater is set up at a little slope because some of the chicks are a bit taller than others- they are mostly mixed breeds from our mixed flock, but two are speckled sussex from eggs I bought.

Thanks! Yeah, I wanted to make sure they had space- they were in a plastic tote but that was too small. They are already so rowdy! With the big window in this they seem happy too because they can watch the world go by when not napping or eating

It's my first time personally with chicks I've hatched via incubation. My sister and dad have done it and we've had hens who have in the past. It's been so exciting

I don't have any money for a heating plate I've always used the lamp. But I have 2 brooders right now one in my room and one in the coop with adult chickens I have food, and water. Some perches and disco bals hanging on the side since they're shiny

Thats awesome getting to raise chicks that you incubated yourself. I have yet to share that experience but I look forward to that day. I enjoy just watching mine. I have had them for almost two months and watched them grow into their feathers and start establishing their peeking order. It is a very enjoyable experience for me!

A heat lamp works fine! As long as the chicks stay warm that the objective! Keep us posted on their progress. Look forward to seeing them grow!
