I pretty much have decided how I am going to set up my quail pens, but what I really need to know is how are you all brooding them? It seems they spend most of there lives in the brooder (if they are raised for meat), so I guess I need to see what your setups look like.

Could you either explain, or show me pics of your brooders, please??

Thanks soooo much!!!!!

nah, most coturnix are moved out of the brooder as early as 3 1/2 to 4 weeks old depending on how warm it is outside and how they feather out.

So that's a lil over half their lives at most

Now if it's in winter, that's different.

I use 10 gallon fishtanks, as well as 40 gal rubbermaid containers, and "SUPER PET" long cage for guinea pigs and the like has been my most favorite

It's easier to set up a heatlamp in the bars than it is in the tank and the rubbermaid

The biggest one in there is almost 3 weeks old, theres also an ameraucana standard chick in there with other 1-2 week old coturnix chicks and a few hours old coturnix chick.

I use my daughters diaper boxes... (we buy diapers by the case) then just line the bottom with pine shavings at the side I cut a small hole for the water bottle (still put a shallow dish in for drinking for the first few days until they get the hang of the water bottle) then a feeder... I hang a lamp over head... I take the lamp away at 2 weeks and put a sheet of plexi glass on top of the box (it holds in their own body heat so no need of a lamp any more) they are usually feathered by week 3 and I put them in a cage at that point... Then I can just toss the box pine shavings and all out on the compost bin... Then get a new box for the next batch...

Plus it's easy to change the pine shavings too when they need changed I typically already have another box on hand so I just swap them into the new box... toss out the stinky one...

DOLLAR GENERAL STORE'S 30 GALLON SUPER TOTE WORKS GREAT FOR ME! REASONABLY PRICED AND QUITE EFFECTIVE. ALSO YOU CAN SANITIZE THEM QUITE WELL--- LIL 10% BLEACH WATER SOAK FOR 1/2 HR, AIR DRY IT AND ITS QUITE DISINFECTED. AT LEAST IT WORKS WELL FOR ME DOWN HERE IN THE HEAT AND HUMIDITY. I ROTATE TOTES EVERY DAY--- 1 IN USE, I BEING DISINFECTED. DO THE SAME WITH FONTS AND FOOD TRAYS. MY GUYS ARE GROWING LIKE WEEDS! HAPPY HEALTHY AND TEARIN' AROUND IN THE BROODER LIKE WILD MEN! AND WHEN YOU'RE DONE BROODING YOU CAN USE IT FOR STORAGE OF ANY FONTS, FOOD TRAYS AND EVEN THE INCUBATOR!
