Show me your meat bird coop!!

Hi DIane, by your BYC user name I see you are in RI. I found the summer weather to be too hot for these birds-- they definitely need complete shade during hte grow out time. THey have a very high metabolism and are surprisingly hot. THey need to be kept cool as they age out.

I lost a coule when they hid in the shade of a low wooden roof that was hit with sun all afternoon. Not enough air movement in a 4 x 4 x 2 coop with 8 x 3 run. THey didn't use the run when the sun was shining on it.

Hope I am making sense.

ANd I concur with Triple willow on using FF!! We have a thread to help those interested-- just pop in and someone will help you.

oops I just read the original post and I see you said you cant have a tractor... sorry... I will say about these birds though at the end they are just pumping crap out of them, I went through 100 lbs of feed my last 2 weeks and boy did they make a mess... I cant imagine all that in one place.. you might want to integrate a wire floor that you could pull a large tray to remove the crap
