Show me your quail pens!!!

It will be in my garage with a heat lamp above it. Should be able to regulate the temp. Otherwise I'll take the above advice and staple clear plastic to the sides. Thanks for the input.

looks like a great setup. Do you run a commercial volume of birds? How many at a time?

ok so i have been thinking about quail for some time but i dont know what you do with them. i have read that they lay lots of eggs but the eggs are hard to crack and dont boil so well.  So do people raise them for meat? i wouldnt think they would have much meat but then i really dont know. there are wild valley quail in my neighborhood and they seem to get some size to them but i have a family of 9 and i would need at least 1 quail per person for meat. What type of bird would give me what i am looking for?

I am new to quailing (3 weeks) and just started getting a few eggs. Here are my pens.... the 2x4 framed pen is my eating egg makers with 4 hens. The other one is my fertilized egg makers with 2 males and 6 females. Not sure what kinda quails I got as I forgot what the seller called them. Maybe one of yall knows the breeds.

top is Japanese, or coturnix, and bottom probably is too, but I'm not up to par on the different colors of the breed...

I want to say thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread. It has given me a lot of ideas and provided a lot of inspiration!

We just built this to make use of some dead space by our deck. I plan to use a small tractor set up to allow them to free range a bit. The coop is built over the pen. I am new at all of this. We have hardwire mesh elevated over dog kennel trays to remove and clean on the coop portion. However, this proved to be difficult to clean on the bottlm run portion. So I am thinking I will put down a plywood floor and use either sand or shaving for bedding in that area. I have been using branches of christmas trees to create a natural environment for the quail. The side door dose have a latch on it now. We were still working on the finishing touches when this pic was taken.

Sorry for the slow response (ugh work). Here is a quick sketch of my design of the 1 sheet of plywood coop. Disclaimer -I am a pretty haphazard carpenter so the fact that it seemed to work was mostly luck

(Also the nesting box on the side was an after addition and not included in the 1 sheet.)

Here is what it took;
1 4x8' sheet of plywood (3 cuts - roof 4'x4', back 1'x4', and the sides both 3' long and sloping from 3' to 1' in height.
8' of 3' tall wire mesh for bottom (4'x3') and 2 doors (each a bit less than 3' tall & 2' wide)
several (I think aprroximately 5 though I was not counting) 8' 1 1/2"xs (to frame door and to tack the plywood together)
and here is the pic of the end product again to clarify my messy sketch (again I broke into another piece of plywood to add the side nesting box which I use to herd them into while i am cleaning out the coop (it has a little ramp that doubles as a door). I have also since added 1/8 " mesh to the bottom 6" of the door for further predator proofing (not in pic).

Here is an updated picture that includes the addition of the 1/8" mesh- and more importantly lanscaping (haha 1 Icelandic Poppy)

Do you happen to have any pictures of this cage from the full frontal angle? I am very interested in making one of these, and I'd like to see it from the front if possible. I love your workmanship!
