My very first coop and run when I lived up in the ' burbs. Deer mesh was on the top at first, but later replaced with sunshade material that was far sturdier. This was in dog yard, so even though it's in a fairly 'wild' setting, my dogs were out there often enough to deter anything that might try to dig under. I was able to move it to fresh grass every so often by 'walking' it over a few feet at a time.
And my current set up. This was a dog pen when I bought the house, 36x36. I added chicken wire to the top to make it about 10' high, but some critters still flew or climbed in. So I used metal t-posts and chicken wire to make individual runs connected to the houses, and let the kids out to roam the larger area when I'm home.
The structure to the right was the original dog house that I converted into chicken housing. Shed on left was recently donated and refurbished for my new babies.
but since we're tired of having so many flies getting in the house all summer due to the chickens, here is our new one that isn't quite finished yet...
DH will be turning part of that old shed into a new, BIGGER coop too!
I have no pictures yet as everything is still being built....ok just sort of started.
I have a section of yard that is roughly 45 by 10. I just instaled all new fencing down that entire length of yard about 120 feet.but there is a gate at one end and I am building the gate for the other end. this will be used when they are free ranging. their coop and run will be within this area. covered coop and run, 4' wide and 6' feet long coop attached to a 4' x 6' run. Plus they will have access to the area under the coop. this will all be secured with wire fencing. I will add pictures when its built or at least showing progress
I just LOVE looking of pics of other people's runs and coops. They go from pretty fancy to really creative. Our chickens don't care either way as long as they have food and shelter.
What's important to me is keeping my chicks safe.
Thanks for sharing everyone.
I used what I had on hand. Unused horse shelter and dog run.
This weekend I'll be putting the hardware cloth on the bottom 2-3 ft with apron going out from under the kennel
