show off your cochins

I've heard it said that cochin hens make the best broodies, is this true? I've never had any.
I know they say that Buff Orpingtons go broody easily, but I haven't had any of my hens go broody this year. I kinda feel like they have let me down

or they know I bought an incubator

So now I'm waiting for someone to either step up to the plate or I'm gonna go search

for an experienced hen

with a degree in broodiness.

Yes cochins are good for that but whats weird is my Orpington just deserted her chicks because of their age and is setting again.

That is odd. How can she think of being a mother again, when she ain't even finished with the first batch.

I know my moma hen wasn't very good when she sat her batch last year, so we took them and put them in a box cause something got the first two, don't know if it was hens or cats but they vanished. And this year I've got nothing out of her or my younger hens.

It's okay. I went and bought myself an incubator set up this year.

Two hatching chicks here because I managed to hatch a few chicks out of two settings, and you know what?! I think they are all pullets!

I did however have a few unfortunate hatches,
sad.png
some were not able to hatch out and died in shell. Another one was born with a twisted leg.
sad.png
I am happy to say though
clap.gif
that I believe she is going to work out quite well in the brooder pen,
jumpy.gif
she hobbles around and shows the new comer chicks what to do,
D.gif
so she isn't going anywhere no culling here. We've even named her Eggnog.

I am quite pleased with how she has worked out. Just goes to show you, you never know what God can do with a life that has issues, as the saying goes " take lemons and make lemonade from them", and that is what Eggnog is doing for me, the chicks and herself.

I'm very proud of her.
