i was wondering what some of you use for candling your eggs so i thought i'd start a thread on it for everyone to post their candler pics.

also it'll help any newbies or anyone that wants to build one.

here is mine:

It's a simple wooden box with a porcelain base light fixture mounted on the inside..it plugs in to turn on, i think i am going to put a switch on it though, kind of a pain having to plus and unplug.

Mine is just a 60 watt room bulb. it really helps keep the eggs warm while i have them out of the incubator. It works pretty well, i tried to take a picture last night but my camera crapped out on me and refused to take a good picture

hahaha I dont have a pic, but mine is a toilet paper tube duct taped to the top of a Maglite flashlight. It works really well and I can just take it right out to the barn with me

I use the box that the fan came in for my LG bator. I cut a quarter size hole in the bottom of it and use a bright flashlight. I figured since I had to pay $30 for that little fan, I would put the box it came in to good use!

Mine too!! LOL but I use a Ryobi light that stands up. the batteries are rechargeable and it will tilt and stand up on its own.

I also have used a plastic drinking cup, put the opening over the flashlight and cut a small hole in the bottom of the cup to put the egg against. it 'funnels' the light.

Oh yay!! I was wondering how the heck to candle eggs right there by the nest. I only have a brief moment to check them out when mama gets up for food in the morning and the idea of a toilet paper roll and a flashlight sounds perfect! And cheap. Double good!

I've done that same thing, I used black electrical tape and heavy-duty aluminum foil (because light doesn't get through it) to attach the empty cardboard roll to the flashlight. I wrapped the foil around the flashlight end, put the cardboard against the lens inside the foil roll, pressed the foil up against the cardboard tube and taped it. Then I could just lift the foil/cardboard/tape part off the flashlight when I didn't need it, and stick it back on to candle.

It works pretty well!
