It's not that difficult apparently. A friend's ex takes his dog literally everywhere. It's a border collie. Yup he has the support card. He doesn't go into food places even though he could.

Not difficult if you're a card carrier for it,no. If you are certified to have them, it's great to be able to take them everywhere! I do Animal Assisted Therapy so I take my dog to visits & events to let people get their snuggle action on. Hospitals for long treatments for patients to stay calm & convalescent homes for elderly & rehab patients to smile a bit in their sad day. I'd only take an animal that I trusted with a toddler to visits like these...soooo, not Dandy

Oh and the untrained dog just provides emotional support and makes them feel calm. If they feel nervous they can pet or talk to the animal and be able to cope. Size doesn't matter since it can be a 5 lb pomeranian or a 50 lb golden retriever so if ducks aren't on the list now they probably will be soon.

Was Daisy ever a therapy animal? I wanted my ducks to become one so bad, but I'm afraid Wobbles is just too aggressive and Bean gets nippy when she's scared. And she's ALWAYS scared.

There is no "list". I keep telling you, therapy animals have no legal protections. None. Zip. Zero. They are not allowed inside businesses and the owners have every right to refuse them entry into their store. But because it's easy to buy a fake license and there's a lot of confusion regarding the law, a lot of people get bullied into allowing these ill-behaved critters inside because they fear a lawsuit.

Never got to get that far. When I applied to the organization I'm in now, I had originally applied with Daisy in mind & they were going to get back to me to let me know if the insurance would allow. Then a week later Daisy just spontaneously died.

I have a Basset that I'd trust & have had with invalid babies so I ended up taking her.
I would have loved to break Daisy into the organization first as I know when they'd have met her it would have been a no brainer.

I used to take pets to animal education opportunities (formerly known as petting zoos). I was chair of that committee for years. We took our own friendly pets to schools, scouts, churches, a birthday party, nursing homes, grand openings etc. I animal per person so nothing got mobbed. Small animals could be put on beds and people came out of their shell when they touched them. They told us of their pets and it was great. We took dogs, cats, guinea pigs, rats, snakes & I had a chicken that you could hold upside-down like a baby. A person with a trailer sometimes came with a goat and mini horse. We did a fashion show with the dogs. Our organization helped place altered pets with all there shots in many nursing homes too.

If anyone has a little time even once a month talk to a nursing home and get your buds with friendly pets up to date on shots. Some of those people might be thrilled to just see your duck. You don't have to pass them around to everybody. You can hold and let them touch. Practice with friends first and don't overdo it. We stay about an hour.

That's what we do & I love it, it's great to see everyone so happy when we go.

The organization's insurance will cover those pets that are certified for therapy so just in case something happens all parties involved are covered.

You can look for a local kennel club to find out about temperament testing for dogs. They don't have to be purebred to take the test. I don't know if there's anything for other animals.

Oh your Bassett looks so sweet. I had a newfoundland. A 104 year old woman hugged her. She loved it. We had someone with a Bassett but it was huge. Definitely not lap size.

I gotta say my duck in a diaper was a big hit at bible school. Lol

She's maybe 40-45lbs but Bassets have the most dense bones so she's far more petite than her weight lets on...wish I was that lucky

That & she's a French Norman so they tend to be on the leaner side, also. We passed our 2nd CGC so I'm going to take her to the airport visits soon. That would have been a hit to be able to take Daisy there.
