Show off your house ducks!

Pics
I just got back from camping with my house duck, Misty! Here are some pics from the trip.

This was her setup that she stayed in most of the time while we hung out around the campsite. She also got to come out and run around the campsite, and follow me to the creek, where I accidentally scared a wild mallard out of the water that looked just like her!

Here she is in her crate about to take a nap.

We took her to the creek that was flowing through the campground several times and she loved it! She did her "zoomies" and dunked her head in with her butt in the air, ate a bunch of dragonfly larvae and just had a blast bathing in the cool water.

And my favorite pic in a different part of the creek.

And here are a couple videos (please excuse my silly grandpa

We also swam with her in the lake but we didn't get any good pics, unfortunately.

How fun! I'm sure she had a blast. I've always wanted to let my duck swim in a creek or pond, but I worry she wouldn't come back. She's imprinted, but she's unbelievably stubborn, and I worry she'd just swim out to the middle of the pond and squawk at me to come join her, rather than following me to shore when it was time to leave. Maybe I'll get brave enough to try it someday, though, because I bet Misty had an awesome time with it.

What does y'all's ducks inside setup look like
What type of setup are you looking to build/buy? One he/she can comfortably stay in for some period of time, or just to sleep in?

Mine just has a medium sized dog crate, located in my bedroom that has a bed, some toys, and her food and water tub in it. She's locked in it at night to sleep, and comes in to eat/drink throughout the day. Otherwise she's roaming the house, they don't really care to be locked up away from their owners, alone. I don't have any pics of the crate setup at the moment, though.

Quote: Misty is pretty stubborn too, she runs when I try to grab her; but the creek was only about 10 feet wide at the most and it was shallow, so we were standing in it the whole time, when we were done I would just wait until she swam to my feet and I took her by surprise and snatched her up. When we went swimming in the lake that was a little nerve-racking that it would be hard to catch her, everyone else thought she would just swim away and she would be gone. Once I walked out of the water, though she was right behind me, she wasn't gonna let me leave her there in that big scary open water.

I'm not sure if I'd let her swim in something I'm not swimming in or able to stand in. Misty definitely prefers the shallow water to dabble in, so that makes it easier.

How fun to have Misty go camping with you!! I would love to do that.

We got a new ducky today - I'm sitting at my sewing machine making ducky diapers (which faces out the front window) and this couple knocked on our door. I go outside and there's a duck sitting on the ground where they are standing. This cute duck walked up to them at a park a few days ago (a popular dumping ground for unwanted waterfowl) and proceeded to follow them home, right into their house. After a couple days they decided they just weren't equipped to keep her. So they started walking around the neighborhood asking if people could take her in as she was obviously someone's pet until they tired of her and dumped her at the park, and everyone wanted to eat her! So when they saw the ducks in our yard they came over to give her to us! She's super sweet, so I brought her inside, slipped one of my gooseys old diapers on her and she made herself right at home! She just hung out next to me while I sewed up a storm and then went to take a nap with my husband. My mother in law really likes her so I think she gets to stay. Poor girl was obviously picked on at the park by the other birds and she's afraid of my 2 outdoor duckies, no wonder she followed a human home!
We took her on a little field trip to the local pet friendly bookstore and it seems she likes children, she would follow them around and then quack when they didn't notice her and give her attention fast enough haha.

We've been having more fun with ChaCha the new duck. She's been going with me everywhere! So I bought her a car seat (meant for dogs) and she's much happier in the car now. I discovered the best way to get a bow in her hair, and made her her first tutu! I think the next one will be shorter, but it's great since it snaps right onto her diaper (it was originally a pink dragon costume from last halloween).

How do you ensure that your ducks are imprinted? I'd like to raise a couple indoor ducks but I'm not sure where to start.

You just gotta be there when they hatch. That's...about it, hehe! Imprinting usually happens within the first day, if not the first few hours, of life. If they see you, they think they're people. If they see a cat, they'll think they're cats.

I plan on separating my 'lings in separate brooders to ensure a strong bond. But I only have three eggs and of those I'm expecting just two to hatch. That method is a bit too inconvenient with larger clutches.
