Show off your house ducks!

Oh my gosh! That's freaking adorable! Baby Trina used to sit on my computer charger because it was warm lol. I wonder if I have any pictures?
This is my only ducky/laptop picture

Pictures of the new babies! (Please excuse my feet, apparently these ducks like people and wouldn't stay far enough away to get a picture without me in it lol)
SO cute!!!!!!

They must like the warmth! But I can't possibly compete with a laptop lol thankfully these ducklings also have each other so I'm not quite as tied to them 24/7. They sleep in a basket next to my bed and seem quite content. I bought a couple baby doll cribs and I want to turn them into places for the duckies to sleep at night!

Mine has a sibling that just hatched about 1/2 an hour ago, so they will have company shortly.

I'm not sure if the other egg is really behind schedule, or a quitter. Mama duck started brooding before she finished laying, so I suspect there will be a considerable spread in hatch dates. Mom has some siblings under her, but I'm not sure how many, as I don't want to disturb her while she is in lockdown on her nest. She will raise the majority of the brood, but we wanted some house babies, so I pulled a few eggs aside and popped them in one of my incubators to hatch for imprinting...

My 84 year old mother was an object of great interest... She got used as a jungle gym for a while....

I have not been able to bring myself to schlep out the brooder, because, you know, they are just too cute to put down! I have to go out tomorrow for a few hours, and so I will have to get the brooder out by then, but the idea of leaving them alone seems terrible (I'm going to lunch, otherwise I would just pop them in a bag with a heat pack and take them along...)

I really want to steal the new baby from the incubator... The wait for their feathers to dry a bit is excruciating... In the meantime I will have to get started on sewing some nappies...

I know what you mean, especially if they're all alone and they start to peep, not being able to see anything or anyone! Ugh, it's terrible! And yeah...it's rough to find any good establishment that's duck-friendly, hehe. And by rough I mean impossible.

So cute! That drying off period feels like it drags on forever doesn't it? I hatched some ducks with my students and they were just DYING to hold the new babies but they were still all gooey abd couldn't come out. Such a contrast to chickens who fluff up in no time at all lol We have a rally nice lunch place here that has a pet friendly patio so ChaCha gets to come along to our lunch date every Wednesday. I'll have to get a picture next week! It's funny, back when I had my goosey Trina, everyone thought she was a duck. Now that I have a duck, they all think she's a goose!

With my pheasants I had to keep the brooder at eye level so that they could see me otherwise they would call for me. I ended up sleeping in the living room next to the brooder because they would cry so loudly they would wake up the entire house. Later on they got old enough to sleep alone, but would still cry without their night light until they were half grown. (They didn't care about a heat lamp, but they insisted on having a little light on at night...)

Some businesses are more bird friendly than others. There was one deli owner that insisted I come inside with my conure (who was diapered whenever I took her out) so that he could cuddle with her. I doubt the folks at the Chinese buffet will be quite so understanding tomorrow though!

I wish there was a place like that here! I'd be out with the ducks all the time! (And it is funny how many people can't tell the difference between a duck and a goose - despite the fact that they look totally different!)
