Show off your house ducks!

I never clipped her - we have cats, and although they never bothered each other, I wanted her to be able to fly if she needed to. Diaper training her was hysterical, she would roll around on her back and look absolutely forlorn. She hated the thing, but knew that if she wanted to go anywhere outside, she had to have it on. Once we got to a place where she could fly free, I would let her get out of it.

LOL! It's like I'm having deja vu with that hilarious back-rolling bit! Luckily, Wobs is okay once he has his on. Now GETTING it on, that's a whole other can o' worms...

My daughter didn't want to wait for me to sew diapers for the Saxonies, so she pinned an old bra to my poor hen. The principle was sound, but the results were less than optimal, and basically she managed to just make the hen really, really, angry. She didn't quite get that these were older ducks who had never been diapered before and that diapering takes training...
I went to free her from the lingerie diaper fiasco after she had been stewing all day about being in the thing. Needless to say she took all her anger out on me. I ended up battered and bruised. If she had teeth she would definitely have left with part of my arm...

Oh, don't talk to me about bruises...I can't take the mating! My forearms are absolutely covered in welts! I'll never understand duck mating behavior, if the goal is to grab onto something to stabilize yourself, why do they go all gung-ho twisting and jerking their heads trying to dislodge themselves?

cute little forlorn birdie!! But she obviously sticks close to you when she's outside then?

She never once attempted to fly off. She was an amazing bird. We lost her two years ago, we suspect she got egg bound. My husband will not let me get another parrot of any kind because of the devastating loss her death was. She called him "daddy" (she pronounced it "deedee").... It was like losing a child. We used to go to the kids section of WalMart to buy her toys. (all the time) One of her favorites was a talking barbie smartphone. She used to go "check her Email"....

good for her for not flying off. But I am sorry to read she died. That's sad. Smart little bird checking in on her social media though.

That's so heartbreaking...but I still don't see why you can't get another conjure. You learned a hard lesson in the worst way imaginable, but surely now you know what the signs are, and are better prepared to care for a bird! They aren't like your child, they become your child. It's amazing how similar parrots are to human children in every way possible, I still get mind-blown seeing how owners interact with their birds on a daily basis. And I simply love conjures! Although I love lorikeets and caique parrots just a wee bit more. :p

My husband loves animals to death, and he was absolutely traumatized by her passing. I don't think I have ever seen him hit so hard by the loss of a pet. I think he's trying to protect himself from the pain of losing another. I would absolutely love to have another parrot, but he is terrified to face another loss like that. Eventually, I'll just bring another home...
