Show off your house ducks!

Pics
You guys probably don't know this, but I do voice acting to get by when I'm unable to do my usual singing gigs (which is very infrequent since Wobbles dame along). But even that's difficult! I gotta bring him into the studio, and I have the bator in there as well since it's the single most insulated and therefore temperature-stable room in the house, as well as being quiet and shut off from the cats. But it's a problem when you have a duck, a deadline AND a constantly beeping machine!

I love your duck. While you are trying to record, is he just walking around the studio doing his thing or sitting somewhere in there. I mean, he could care less as to what you are doing. It's all him.

I hope when she does she looks as cute as this! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE *gasp, pant pant* EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
What a pretty duck! I think one of my ducklings is going to look something like that.

that sounds like the funnest job ever! I am totally jealous! I love wobs tiny quack quack in the background! He's so cute! I'm not sure if Kendra and her ducky Harper are in here, but Harper ate a coin and is now stuck at the vet. The vet is unsure what top do! Please keep Harper and Kendra in your thoughts and prayers! no one can understand the bond with a special ducky better than you guys!

OH no. I am so sorry. I will do that in my prayers. Please keep us posted. I certainly hope Harper's situation gets resolved very soon.

Pretty much. He'll just meander around, but if I'm in there for a long time he'll get bored and find ways to entertain himself...all of which involve distracting me!

Oh my goodness...I hope they can get it out, Harper's way too young to die of metal poisoning ;; Poor duckie! At least it looks like it's already deep into his intestines so hopefully it'll pass without it dissolving. At the very least that vet better had given him a shot of EDTA or something to prevent any more nickel from entering the bloodstream!

Also this may sound in appropriate given the situation, but I always adore seeing ducks on x-ray. They look like rubber chickens <3

Hey everybody!

I've gotten an update on Harper Duck. They've found a vet to perform surgery but the vet bills are getting up there. Harper has a go-fund-me page that I wanted to share with you all. There's absolutely no pressure to donate, but it has her story there if any of you are interested in reading it =)

You know, I'm always amazed at how much of a couch potato Wobbles is! He sleeps throughout the day, always alternating between nappin' and total hyperactivity, hehe!

Also, do any of you guys take measures to help grind down their bills any? I know they're full of blood vessels but like their toenails, in the wild they do get worn down a little. Do you think giving him a cuttlebone would help with that?

that duck is hysterical. Where does he sleep, like just anywhere or does he have a certain place? Do you get a nice break when he naps?

I don't know if you can and have it comfortable for the duck. Mine have scraped their bills on stuff in the house by accident and it looked terrible! One hard hit on a sharp edge and they bleed! They do have a lightly keratinized layer that sloughs off naturally over time that I'm sure gets worn off pretty quickly in the wild (my drake is looking a bit peely because the house doesn't offer him anyplace to root for grubs - but I would be terrified to try to buff it myself. Perhaps some treats partially buried in some moistened grit? If he has to dig into the grit to get at them, he will do his own sanding, since the bird grit is relatively fine and totally safe if he swallows it. Thinking about it I may try that with some fresh veggies tomorrow to see if he will actually buy into bobbing for treats in a poultry grit slurry..... I'm sure his kids will have a blast - and it will be way healthier than all the junk food I share with their siblings. Given a choice between a fresh, sweet, cut up cherry tomato and a marshmallow, the marshmallow won, hands down. (As you can see I am really applying the concepts I learned in my undergraduate degree (animal science) in animal feeds and nutrition class with those marshmallows...)
