Show off your house ducks!

that duck is hysterical. Where does he sleep, like just anywhere or does he have a certain place? Do you get a nice break when he naps?

During the day he'll sleep on a pillow right by my head or on my desk, and at night he sleeps in a doggy kennel right by the bed so he can see me. :3

What a gorgeous photo! Wow! I wish I had a garden that beautiful. <3 I have a good friend named Joe Louie, too. Weird.

I don't know if you can and have it comfortable for the duck.  Mine have scraped their bills on stuff in the house by accident and it looked terrible! One hard hit on a sharp edge and they bleed! They do have a lightly keratinized layer that sloughs off naturally over time that I'm sure gets worn off pretty quickly in the wild (my drake is looking a bit peely because the house doesn't offer him anyplace to root for grubs - but I would be terrified to try to buff it myself.  Perhaps some treats partially buried in some moistened grit?  If he has to dig into the grit to get at them, he will do his own sanding, since the bird grit is relatively fine and totally safe if he swallows it.  Thinking about it I may try that with some fresh veggies tomorrow to see if he will actually buy into bobbing for treats in a poultry grit slurry.....  I'm sure his kids will have a blast - and it will be way healthier than all the junk food I share with their siblings.  Given a choice between a fresh, sweet, cut up cherry tomato and a marshmallow, the marshmallow won, hands down.  (As you can see I am really applying the concepts I learned in my undergraduate degree (animal science) in animal feeds and nutrition class with those marshmallows...)
Funny, you are. Marshmallows over nutritional food any day!!

aaaah, sweet lil' baby Wobs has to see you to sleep. He a social boy.

the duck in the foreground has such a keeyoot face!

Right?? Dat head tilt <3

Here's Wobbles zonking out on his pillow. You can see his clear plastic bin off to the left, he used to sleep in that so he could be by my head at night. Otherwise he's unhappy. :p

He's been doing that since he was tiny!

I don't know how anyone with call ducks can get anything accomplished with all the squeeing over the cuteness all day long.

Oh Em Gee, Amykins, yes, the head tilt with the garden duck is exactly what got to me. We're on the same wavelength of duck. Wobbles' nods of sleepiness make him so precious and innocent. His head and cheeks need lotsa kisses.

If you play the two videos at the same time, the result is magical! His frequency of dropping his head from when he was an adorable duckling to now as an adorable drake are identical! I'm lgoing to keel over from cute overload!!!!

My first little batch of calls went into the incubator, and the second batch will go in by the end of the week. I'm so excited! My babies took their first stroll into the main part of the house yesterday. Their parents and siblings were also out, so I had a mass of ducklings assaulting the cats' feet and sampling the cat food. Mama duck called her batch, and I called mine, and they all split up instantly into hers and mine. Mama took hers to nap by the wood stove (her favorite place even when it is not being used), and mine settled under the brooder where they could watch me clean. Their father snuck into my 84 year old mother's room, as he loves hanging out at the foot of her bed. You could hear him doing his soft little drake grunt in the dark. My daughter chased him out to put him back with his family, and my mom protested: "He was singing to me!" Too cute!
