Show off your house ducks!

He is so cute! I love how they sleep with their beaks tucked in their wings! It is just precious! :)

I highly recommend @kukupecpec 's, also known as SewSammi on Etsy, diapers. They're wonderful. Ships fast, are cute as can be, and couldn't be easier to clean. They are great.

This is my house duck, Winter. And, this is her set up. It's in my room with me, my boyfriend, and our three Yorkies. My Yorkie Palmer is my baby and Winter is hers. Winter imprinted on Palmer as her momma and Palmer looks at Winter as her baby. It is the sweetest thing. Half of Winter's pen has the confetti pet bedding from either Petsmart or Petco and the other half has a puppy pad, with a placemat (like you would set at the dinner table - to absorb even more water), and her food and water bowls. I, too, cut a hole in a jug of sweet tea for her water. I only have to clean her pen every other day and it works wonderfully for us. She really doesn't make much of a mess for a little duck. It doesn't hurt either that her pen is super cute, we absolutely love it! :)

Nice pen for little Winter. Oh, why oh why, is she so cute?

I love the dynamics between her and Palmer. Precious.

Julie Bird,
I think they just like watching their momma's & poppa's exasperated faces & laughing their little ducky "QUAAAACKquackquackquackQUAAAACKquackquack...quack" laugh at us

That is so true Scovy Momma. They are such intelligent creatures with a wicked sense of humor thrown in.

Any bites for you on a scovy baby? I hope you can find that little cutie you have now a home soon.

So, is anyone interested in a pretty buff baby? She just got her wingy-dings grown in a week ago & is cuddly. She has taken to a diaper & sleeps on the bed or the playpen through the night. I took her in as a foster with the possibility to keep if I can't find her a home but she's just not a muscovy & I think that's what I need. She is a small healthy sweet girl & put on weight & can go to a new home now!

I know, I know. I didn't turn the phone. I hate black bars too

She is so sweet. Wish I had a set up conducive to ducks. I'd take her in a second.

I love them so much! They're so adorable. I love having conversations with them too.

They are ALWAYS loved. :love
it is amazing how ducks can captivate you. The combo of what they look like, how they act and that they are burds makes me an obsessed fan. I have my friend's ducks on my phone's background and computer's too.

Yes it is. They are seriously like my children. I can't wait until I can get them their diapers and leashes! They they can be inside more and possibly take them along with us out in town.

my boyfriend doesn't like the idea of carrying them around with us but he also didn't like the idea of ducks then I talked him into now he sits on the floor and feeds them treats and loves it

Ha, me too! When I first got Wobbles' egg in the mail Hils was all "Nope, nuh-uh, can't do it, bad idea." NOW he's such an overprotective poppa he won't even let me clip his wings even though I've done it a million times, nope, gotta take him to the vet instead xD

Awh they try to be all tough but they got a soft spot too

he even talks to him in the cute voice that they don't normally let other people hear! I told him to pick out Pepper's diaper and he picked out the color he wants her to have and was even involved. When they were little we would let them cuddle on us and he has a beard so he'd let the ducks "search for buggies" in his beard

Daisy was one awesome duck. I think you lucked out in that she was okay being left alone, lord knows I've never known any duck that fared well in that situation. I saw your vid of her dancing and honking along to that music video, it's the most precious thing ever!

And Mommaduck, I recommend Kukupecpec's diapeys. Partyfowl's are okay, but Kukupecpec (Sewsammi on etsy) makes them better, sells them cheaper, and ships them out faster. There's really no reason to ever buy from Partyfowl as long as Sam keeps her business open.

Also here's an update on the vet: Bean still has her ear gauge inside her. So she's still our Terminator duck. Got her wings and nails done for the first time too, and she was NOT happy. We'll just have to wait and see if her attitude improves any after this :p

I posted the following to another thread and someone recommended I come here for an answer. Hopefully someone can help:

So I have a five/sixish week old duck and we've basically broken all the rules of duck ownership thus far, but he seems to be thriving in the current situation.
He is our only duck, but we never exactly made plans to have a duck. It is more along the lines of a rescue situation, but we've gotten pretty attached and for better or worse, we belong to him now.
He is also an inside duck because we have three dogs (two of them hunting dogs, although the guard/herding dog seems to keep them in line anytime the duck is near and he is never on the ground around them) and we live in the middle of the suburbs. We do have a nice fenced in backyard so he will have a place to get fair exercise and outdoor time when he is old enough, but as a new momma duck, I really just worry too much to have him outside for any length of time without being right there with him. All that aside, those are bridges we will cross if and when we come to them.

My major concern right now is this: He is getting older now and as a result he is loving the water more and more. I would be worried if he didn't! But he is also staying wet the majority of the time. He lives in a large breed dog kennel during the day while we are at work and usually within hours of cleaning up his bedding, half the cage is wet. The kennel will not be his long term housing, but it is what we have for now, until we can come up with a more permanent solution that will keep him safe and healthy.
I am looking for solutions/suggestions to keep his cage (and him) as dry as possible. In the event that he spills his water or steps in it, which happens often, I want the water to stay contained away from his bedding, so that he has a dry place to go if he chooses until I can get home and clean it up. Especially because he is in the house, which can get drafty during the summer months with the air on, I don't want him getting colder than he can handle.
I've also wondered if he maybe plays in his water to occupy himself during the day and if we could potentially reduce the mess he makes by giving him other stuff to do. We've had a mirror in there but he liked it less and less as he got older. We also have a couple of rocks in there with him but he tends only to use those when he wants to sleep. Most everything we have tried to occupy him with (because he is alone and they need to be social and busy) he ends up disinterested with and we take it out of his cage in favor of giving him more space. I haven't exactly seen "duck toys" for sale at Petco, but are there ways to allow him to forage within the confines of his cage or other activities he might take to that would have him spending less time playing in his drinking water?
I understand that ducks will be ducks and I'm completely okay with that but, as this is not an ideal duck raising situation, I just want to make sure we aren't doing anything that is unhealthy or will impede his development in the future. Please, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
How about something like this?

The stew pot is two gallon size - there are dry sawdust pellets in the bottom to absorb splash.

For your little one, I would not use the two gallon pot yet - he could get stuck and drown - but a safe water dish on the sawdust pellets would catch the splash.
