Show off your house ducks!

Yeah, that is far from me. Maybe you have a feed store nearby or can order online. They can ship ducks to you!

Edit:She's imprinted on people very much so! Loves everyone.

Everybody who's following this thread is probably going to boo me for this, but I'm going to say it anyway. I think you should get him a female companion.

I plan on it...eventually...and I'm not trying to sound lazy, ignorant, or selfish but honestly I can't right now. To introduce him to a new duck takes some time with a 20 month old, another baby on the way, working full time, I have enough trouble finding a babysitter for Ryleigh, my apartment is small, we have to save up to get a new place as soon as winter ends, it was hard enough to talk my dh into letting JoJo become a full time house duck, he would never go for two. Its just aaahhhhhh!!!!!! Can't do it right now, I would officially lose it!

Many of the dumped ducks are imprinted on humans - that's why they are so much at risk. Edit - that is one of the reasons they are so much at risk.

X2

I have 2 ducks that came into our flock at 3 months old (definitely not imprinted on us, but born around people) and 10 ducks that I got as ducklings shipped on day 1 (imprinted). As adult ducks they all behave the same with us - the imprinting or lack there of doesn't matter. Imprinting for ducks is on two things: species and mom. If the duck sees another duck, it will know it is a duck. If it imprints as something else, this can only be bad for it. If you are the big thing that it fixates on, you will be imprinted as mom. This is nice for sure, but once the duck is 8 weeks old, mom doesn't matter anymore. With grown ducks you must develop your own relationship. Imprinting in other birds is different (goose imprinting is much more profound). Ask @kukupecpec about the rewards of an adopted house duck. ChaCha couldn't be anymore domesticated than if @kukupecpec had sat on the egg herself.

I called Tractor Supply today, and I was told they don't sell ducks. That was the end of that. The only other place I can think of is craigslist, Ill keep an eye out but I don't expect to find what Im looking for.
