Show off your house ducks!

I love it because it's not like a call really SAYS "Quack" per se, they sound like little cars in heavy rush hour traffic. "MEHP! Meep-meep! EHP! MAHP-MAHP!....vroooOOOOOoooommmm..."
Ducks little ducks adult ducks duckling webs beaks roundness fuzzy butts naughtiness soft funny çute noises = love of a duck

Aw, so glad you got to give her a kiss without the bitey... Bean and Lady Grey would probably eat each other up, lol... Lady Grey bites everything but me, and now finally Crash and Burn... dunno how those 2 survived long enough for her to accept them, lol...
Glad you have something working out for you, gotta love those itty bitty duckles... I put my face down on the side of her neck so her bill is next to my cheek and she does little nibbles that way... have you tried that?
You're too sweet!! Glad you all like my tiny round terror... :)
your tiny terror is priceless because if one were to meet her and think, wow, this ducklet is awfully bitty then see #1 she flys and banks her turns, #2 she squeaks when she eats, then #3 she behaves in all sorry of naughty ways, they wouldn't believe it. IMO it is what makes Lady Grey so precious and kissable on her little face and neck.

Ha, sounds like she and Bean are bosom buddies, then! I'm really working hard to get her to stop biting. I developed a regimen that's working, I even was able to kiss her little bill today and I didn't get bitten once! But it'll all fall apart if I can't get Hils to start disciplining them. And he never does!
Eeeee, you kisses her bill. How is Hils supposed to discipline them?

I used to! She'd give me little neeboos all the time. I feel so bad, I know her phobia is 'cuz she had such a rotten start in life, at the vets in and out that time she nearly died. I miss cheek neeboos. But who knows, if I work with her enough maybe, just maybe, I'll get them again.

It will all be good! Tella and Ettie's first winter (before the ducklings came) was before I had joined BYC and I was ABSOLUTELY clueless. Our only questions were, "what do they eat?" and "will they fly away?" So they played with the raccoons at night and we kept trying to get them to go under a heat lamp in their little house that they didn't want to go in. We switched what we were doing every week trying to get them to go into their little house. The only way we could have been worse duck parents would have been to not feed them and sit in the back yard shooting at them with a pellet gun.

We had decided we wanted to do the duck thing and started researching the ducklings. Most of the searches came up with BYC so by the time the ducklings were getting fully feathered, I actually decided to join. We actually did a pretty good job of brooding the little ducklings. But by the time we first got the ducklings, Tella & Ettie were terrified of us. Well we started getting ourselves that clue. Some from BYC some from our own tragedies, but now we know how to be pretty good duck parents and we are trying to improve things all the time. Some day we hope to have a better house for them and a secure run around it so we can leave for a day and if one doesn't go in the house at night the only bad thing would be they are lonely.

The point is Tella and Ettie were in a very bad place at approx. 6 months old. Since then, we have been much better, more consistent and won back their trust. Tella is completely at ease with us and is perfectly OK with being held. She will walk away rather than getting picked up, but once she is picked up, she is very relaxed and when she gets put back down she doesn't scramble for the ground. She waits until she is put down and sometimes she wanders off, sometimes she will just stand where we put her. She trusts us completely. Ettie is about like the average duck. She will come up and peck our feet and legs for no real reason. She will definitely show up for hand feeding. And she is not afraid of us. She is more squirmy being picked up and if we walk closer than a foot to her, she complains, but she is no longer the terrified mess we made her initially. House ducks are even closer and since you only have two, they will get MUCH more of your time than any individual in our flock gets. So I would think she will be your cuddle bug again and forever once she gets over her teenage fear of EVERYTHING and comes to terms with the normal house duck routine.

You'll get there, don't worry... one day she'll just surprise you... I thought Lady Grey would always try to eat Crash & Burn, then just a few days ago it all changed... was trying to get the 2 young mallard hens we have to to coexist with those 3... they scared Crash & Burn and Lady Grey pushed them outta the way and turned into vicious bitey duck at the mallards... brought them inside and they slept side by side that night... been inseperable since... a week ago they had to have at least a foot of space between them, now...
