Show off your roosters

Thank you so much! We really appreciate it! You are very kind. And like the idea about the cardboard. They will be laying in a month or so, we are so excited! We already have chickens all around the house when we wake up in the morning, it is a sight to see, let me tell you! And there is a local food bank we plan to donate extra eggs too, so you have the right idea!

This is my 2 month old Rhode Island Red rooster named Thomas

Quote from ttps://www.omlet.co.uk/breeds/chickens/vorwerk/
''They are powerful and compact birds with broad backs, and a deep, rounded breast.''
How did they define them as strong and compact? Comparing with who?
P.S, Mine weigh-in 2.7 kgs, till 9 months of age. Now in 13 months of age, he is 2.6 kgs. What I dont like.
Breed standarts are 2.5-3.2 kgs, So I hoped mine gonna be even bit more than 3.2. :/

Robert my RIR, he's twice the size as everyone else even though they're the same age, he's even bigger then my broody hen already.

This is Uncle Cracker, my barred rock rooster, he's my show bird in training. He's so handsome.

and about the card board boxes, the only thing is they are light weight, and can turn over as the hens jump in and out so we used bottle caps with a hole in the middle and screwed them down in the cornres into some old wooden planks we found that way the boxes will always remain stationary & no moving or turning over BUT also I had this idea maybe try some cheap laundry baskets from the dollar store , for around $1.00 each. i have a few here and last night my hubby came home with an injored wild dove so one of those laundry baskets turned up side down was a great temporary cage for it , and we will keep her until she is better, but my big girls will fit into one of those baskets with room to spare, & they are really large hens NHR & Barred rocks , so for about a $1.00 each those round laundry baskets can be turned into welll ventilated nest boxes , we usually hunt around for stuff to suite our needs and always use the free stuff first....lol...

, so its up to you try it , get one and see what you can create out of it... as new wood from a lumbar yard is expensive we know we just build a full size hen house so if thats what you plain on maybe look for used wood...? or maybe those baskets could be used up side down , or right side , which ever is better , then cut out a door way in them and screw them down, add straw to the bottom area and there it is.....lol.....that choice may be a better choice for temporary nest boxes, then the card board boxes could be..????? well i wish you all the very best...!!! take care Dianna
