Show off your roosters

Ok. I was talking about the little hen? next to the bantam roos, she looks like a little sweetie.

You must mean the little silver duckwing old English game bantam hen. Here are two of them with my mille d'fleur d'uccle bantam and nine week old puppy (who might weigh six pounds in the picture) so you can see how small they are. At most they're pigeon sized but lots of personality in a tiny body and lots of fun.

Can I keep roosters together? We had a frizzle hen.......then she started crowing at me. It is one of our favorite chickens because he acts like a dog. The minute he crowed at me I went inside to tell my husband I needed a second chicken area to seperate him out with some of the girls. But the run is 40x50 and the house is 8x10 with 13 LF and 6 bantams plus frizzle roo. Is that big enough for two Roosters? I don't want them to get hurt.

I thought I had a lot of roosters, it must be non stop crowing. Do you keep them separately or in groups.

Oh definitely non-stop. I love all my boy's crows though. They all have such unique voices, I can usually tell who's crowing from down at the house.

I have three separate areas. Standard pen, bantam pen, and Clay's pen. Many cockbirds in each. They all get along pretty well, although the bantam pen has been getting a bit crowded lately. Oh, and there are five mutt roos living under my porch that were supposed to be meat birds I was taking as a favor for someone who needed them gone fast, but certain family members said "But you can't kill them so close to Christmas!" and gave me those sad eyes so now they're down their eating up feed until I either accidentally fall in love with all of the things or finally clear up a day to get the deed done.

So many beautiful & handsome boys to choose from, would be hard to pick just one!

That's why I have so many! Hens may lay the eggs but the boys are prettier than all get out. Of course I'm always purchasing more and more hens to keep ratios decent as new cockerels grow out. People tell me I need to stop collecting at some point but I think I just need to build a few more coops...

Quite a collection! Do they still crow after caponing?

They shouldn't if the caponizong was complete - a slipped cockerel will crow, although usually at a later age. I just had my oldest "capon" start crowing this week - of course I've been expecting that, he's been acting way too "rooster-ly" with the ladies to be a proper full capon, this just confirms my suspicions.

Yes, you can keep multiple roosters of mosf any breed besides gamefowl in the same pen (and even rules about games can often be bent). One rooster will assert dominance and the other will not be allowed to mate or interact with the girls, and will probably have to eat and drink after the rest of the flock is done as well. As he grows you might eventually see the day come when they fight and determine who is dominant, which offen results in simple injuries like cuts or bites on the comb and wattle - which looks bad as these areas bleed a lot but is really not a serious injury. Of course other roosters may naturally defer to an older male and simply fall into their submissive position without any fuss at all. It all depends on the cockerels.

I have a 8 month roo who still hasn't crowed.I can't afford any other cockerals because my dominant roo will just kill em.The two cockerals might allow more roos.
