Show quality or not?

ooh, I get it now, sorry chris09. I will take a close look at her legs but I think they are a more palish color. That just might be because of her lack of sunlight at the moment. I looked at her tail this evening and saw several feathers that are entirely black, if I will entering her in a community fair or something I would pull or cut those out then.

She is about 2 years old and I have had her for 2 weeks now since the auction and she hasnt laid any eggs yet. I want to get a good rooster and breed them. Do you think I would get any good chicks from her if I had a decent rooster?

mmm, your right chickienlover54, her lower beak does seem a but longer. It must have been clipped or something. What do standard Barred Rocks usually weigh approx?

Hens should be around 7.5 to 8.0 pounds

The leg color is not from a lack of sunlight, also as I said before her bottom beak is longer than her top beak so you should not breed her but she is very pretty!

Sorry but it wasn't clipped like that, it is a genetic defect and will always be that way

oh, thats ok, she is very pretty anyways though. I guess she will just be used for eggs and a pet then. Thanks for all the information!

She's a nice little pet bird. The all black feathers, the bottom beak problem, the many many pointed and not straight comb (five points evenly spaced, straight bladed), she's small and narrow backed. Stress can stop a bird laying, just let her settle in and get her the best layer pellet you can afford. She'll probably lay in another week or two. She may not like what you're using for nest box lining. Some birds hate shavings and prefer straw. I have one that prefers sand. Try different things.

Wow, you guys obviously know what your talking about. I would never had picked up on those kinda things. (the picky stuff) I got her just over 2 weeks ago at an auction so I'd imagine she would be pretty stressed out. She laid her first egg today too!!

I have 2 Barred Plymouth Rocks that I got from the feed store as I am just starting out figured feed store chickens would be fine. I don't want you to think i'm biting on your thread but wanted to know if my girls have smudged bars as well. They are about 3 1/2 months old if it matters. They got yellow legs, no black feathers and beak looks good...just not sure on the bars. Thanks
