Can someone tell me what makes a Silkie a show quality bird? Even where I can go to find out would be good info.
I got a 2 day old partridge bantam chick today that is supposed to be 'show quality', and I basically know nothing!

Here is a pic... I still have not named it yet

Does it look show quality to anyone? I really don't care at this point, I bought this baby because I fell in love immediately! But it would be nice to have opinions......

There is no way to guage the quality of a bird that young.
I have since found that out....Thanks!! I am new to chickens, and won't fall for that again

i would have bought this little chicky anyway....he/she is soo cute, I just adore him/her!!!!

That's a darling little chick.

You won't know what you've got until the adult plumage is in.

I don't make my final selection (with my ducks) until the birds are 1 year old. They change as they grow and they continue to fill out until they are a year old. Temperaments can change that first spring, too, and I am a stickler for good temperament. My geese are still growing until they are 3 years old, but at least with chickens, you don't have to wait that long.

As your bird grows, you will be able to get an idea of whether or not he/she is showing show potential (or not). Pay the biggest attention to type. My best birds show good type from fairly early on (several months), not that some do not develop better type as they get older.

If you know what their parents looked like, it will give you a better idea of what they MAY look like.
