One of my hens is sitting on four eggs now, so I reworked things today and built a brooding pen on top of the nest boxes. I didn't move her and the eggs yet, but I have time.

I am glad that this thread has came out.Today I was working in my shop building nesting boxes for my coop.I am building it like a little White Church.I was going to build a standard box that I can lift the lid from the outside to retrieve my eggs.This has put me to a halt so that I can match it to the style of my coop;Inside and out.As I get it going I plan on putting some pictures out.It's a long process getting going.I am finishing one coop and building another while doing the Honeydew.

Here's ours for the bantams.. The whole set up will change this fall but this wil still be used. Made of pallets, straighten nails and 4 gal mayo buckets.. Cost a few nails and wood shavings..They climb up fine but I want to raise the bottom of "ladder" a few inces
And for the big girls.. so far 6 boxes.. I lined the coke crates with feed sacks but gotta still zip tie the sacks in on the top boxes in this pic. Made with 2 2x4s and pallets.

I'm going to be using litter buckets too and I was wondering - why the holes? Ventilation? Are they all around? Do they seem to make much difference in the temp inside?

Hey, zookeeptd! Love your "ladder". I'm in the middle of building a pallet coop, and this is a great idea! Thanks for sharing! How are the coke crates working for you as nesting boxes - not enclosed...do the girls mind?

Thinking about this 15" tall and 18" deep. Opinions? These demensions are with it laying on its side. In this photo it is 77" tall. Wouldn't i be able to get about 6 nests this way?

Talk about nests. High school lockers. Overall dims are: 6ft x 3ft x 18in. There are also and maybe the best. Small individual lockers with a door on each one. Size is 12"W X 15"D X 12"H,
