I absolutely have to disagree with this statement. I guess I am one of the crazy breeders you are talking about at the APA shows and I do not (nor do I know of anyone) who as you stated "medicate the crap out of them". Nor would I leave my chickens in some barn for a week housed with chickens who are not up to date with the health standards I require at my farm.
Not to mention I do not find the fairs to have adequate competition, to compensate for all the hard work and effort it takes to get a bird ready for showing. Or the stress on the bird. If I am going to do all that work and put stress on my birds I hope to have decent competition or we will just stay home.

That explains a white silkie I just saw at a show! Not a show girl but it was standard sized with a single comb! It didnt place in its class. My first impression was a cross breed. Now Im sure of it! Very odd looking bird!

There was a lady I went too in easley, sc. She had show girls. I thought they were ugly. Ive never liked the naked necks. Just looks weird. I guess its just what ever you wanna see though. But hers looked like a silkie completly. Just had those ugly dark necks like a vulture.

fair was and is big part my and my families life we spend more 1/2 year getting out birds ready for the fair between market animals and show birds
