I would love to show again this year. I've won a couple years in a row. But we had a few youngs roos for a while and before we could find homes for them they managed to bare the back of just about every hen I have. Poor little things. Now I'm back down to just one roo with my 10 hens. And things are great. But how can I get them to grow their feathers back in before july. Usually I don't think they will come in before fall. But if there is any way to speed it up, someone please share.

My chickens are so nice and healthy, but they look so scruffy with bald backs. How can I get them to grow it back?

First make sure that the hens in the pen are not assisting in the balding.

Next, just plain remove the male from the pen. He will continue to breed the hens and may break off new feathers that grow in. You can move him back into the pen once the females grow back the feathers.

First, I would suggest that you remove the male. Then, you should go over each bird and pull out any broken or damaged feathers, including foot, wing, and tail feathers. Also, you should increase the protein in their diet to speed up the process, and keep their pens as clean as possible to keep the feathers from becoming discolored if they're white, splash, etc. They should be in condition by July.
