Hi, I don't know about showing chickens and was instanlty interested when this topic came up! What I don't know is when you how a chicken do you have to sell it when you are done?
The only birds that must sell are the market pens of Cornish Cross raised by 4-H kids specifically to sell at the fair. They bring really good money, so it is worth participating.
Other than that, if you want to sell the birds, it is usually OK to post a small for sale sign after the judging is all over.
There is no single answer to the question. It all depends on the show/fair. Generally market birds are intended to be sold, but the fair may have limits on the number of birds that can sell, or how they much place to be sold. Exhibition birds are typically not required to be sold, and it may not even be available as a part of the fair or show.
You need to contact the Show Superintendent and ask specifically for that show.
hey i was wondering, i have two baby silkeys at work, there 4 weeks old, but how old do they need to be before entering them into any show? and whats that about selling them after a show? this would just be a bit of fun
They need to be mature; for silkies that means they ought to be at least 8 months old to show well. Some lines mature more slowly or rapidly than others.
