Showing chickens, where to buy?

So far I have run into dead ends, looking for show quality stock to start small flock of Salmon Faverolles for my oldest son to raise and show and enjoy. Does he just choose breeds impossible to find and work with or is it just this hard for everyone to start on this venture?

It's definitely harder when you're after a rarer breed. I know there are a couple of breed threads on BYC dedicated to the Faverolles and there's always the option of actually going to a poultry show as a spectator, and seeing if there is a breeder of the birds there who is willing to give you a leg up to start!

You might also consider hatching eggs. Those may be easier to come by and easier to have shipped to you. I get about a 50% hatch rate on shipped eggs. They are really a gamble.
