I was wondering what a good show chicken should look like. I usually clip my chickens wings but I dont know if I'll get docked points when they get judged. So I just want some help on what I should do.

That would probably be a flaw.
A show chicken should look like the APA SOP.
If you don't have a SOP book, go to the breed's club or association website and it will tell you what the standard is.

I'm glad you joined us.

A show chicken should look like the standard for its breed. Every chicken is supposed to have a certain color and body shape which should, as closely as possible, match the breed standard laid out in the American Poultry Associaton's Standard of Perfection. I suggest that you get that book if you want to know what your breed should look like, as each breed has a different shape, and each variety within that breed looks slightly different as well

Clipped wings are a disqualification (meaning that the chicken can't place or win anything) at poultry shows, except in Canada and Egyptian geese and bantam ducks. If you want to show, I suggest not clipping the wings.

I have never shown my birds so I can't tell you much. But do enjoy any shows you do attend and I wish you well!!

Welcome to our flock!

Maybe you can attend a local show first and get a feel for what goes on. You could also talk to exhibitors especially of winning entries. They would be glad to explain what is so good about their birds.

New to Co., I attended a show last June 2014
I'm looking for more shows close to Cortez Co. Anyone know the best shows to go to...???
