Any advice in how to/tips for showing pheasants, specifically in 4H, would be greatly appreciated. I have shown chickens for a few years, but those years, no one else had shown pheasants, Are they shown the same as chickens? Yes, no? If no, what's different?
Thanks in advance.

No one shows them for a reason. They are gamebirds and can seem nice and calm and then without notice they fly into the top of the cage andare scalped or killed.I suggest not showing them and chancing them getting killed.
In N.H.,Tony.

Yes it is hard to show pheasants but I have seen it done. Some fairs in Ohio show the birds in their own category or they do it in independent fair projects. They do have finishing feed and make sure to use blinders on the birds so you have nice tail feathers!!!

I'm in Ohio, and I'm working on this very issue right now. I'm trying to set it up where the birds don't have to be removed from cage to be judged, and they have bigger cages to allow for tail feathers. As of right now the Franklin county fair has two columns you could even entertain ornamental pheasants, they have a couple for ringnecks. But none just for ornamental pheasants on their own.

Hey im from utah and we have a decent bit of people showing then at the box elder county fair we have had reeves pheasants and golden pheasants but not ringnecks yet but this year i am showing my melenistic male in our fair. A lot of the time we have to bring our own cage because they dont fit in the normal chicken ones and our own feed because everyone feeds each bird different feed.
