Would red stars be shown in a general cross bred class? I want some good layers and found a nice little farm near by that has red star pullets. Is this a bred that I should just expect eggs and maybe have the kids do a egg display instead of showing the birds?

The chickens look great to me but I understand they aren't a fancy bird so not showing them would be ok. Also does the chickens age matter in showing?

What do you guys think?

You'd have to look at the entry premiums to see what classes are available that they would be eligible for since it varies. Red Stars are a mixed breed, so could be entered under cross breds. If you have showmanship or husbandry type classes the condition of the chicken and /or knowledge of the child is what is judged, not the breed type. They are bred to be an egg layer and are exceptional at it. Usually there is a minimum age the chicken can be for the show, otherwise it is not the age of the chicken that matters but what condition it is in.
