showing with a broken wing feather

I am going through birds to decide what to send to a poultry show. One bird is really nice in every way but some of its wing feathers are snapped about three fourths of the way up. Is it even worth entering a bird with that defect?

Yes. It’s only a defect that can be cut for about two points total. At least the feathers are intact. Some judges may cut for more like they did at the fair I exhibited at, but this is incorrect.
Type and color are primary. May I see the bird you plan to show?

A busted feather won’t be much of point deduction. According to the ABA standard its 1/2 to 1 point deducted per broken feather. If it’s completely gone it’s 1-2 points off

Okay, for Silkies it’s really no big deal. Silkiness can cause the broken feather. The judge won’t even notice.
