Shredded office paper

Hi all. I have read about the use of shredded paper in coops and seems to be conflicting advise. Is there anything I should be wary of before using it ? x

My chickens eat it. I've tried shredded paper in nest boxes and it's gone within a couple days. I'll try again in deep bedding, but not on top.

In the US the vast majority of printing is done with non-toxic, soy-based inks. They're cheaper.

Then don't use newspaper. That smears and makes a mess.

I would not worry about the ink either. The colors used to be made from dangerous stuff but not any more. My only concern would be staples. They are sharp and could potentially puncture the gizzard as they were being ground up.

There is definitely no staples. The Shredder wouldn't take them x

I use shredded newspapers and I do not find them to smear or make a mess. they're very dry since they're in the coop. I love a mix of shredded paper and wood shavings.
