I have access to loads of shredded paper. Could this be used for bedding in the coop? Anyone see any harm in this? It would be paper only, no plastic from envelopes or anything like that.

Foghorn, Hands down pine shavings are the best. You can use anything you want to substitute that, and will have a bedding for the chicks and chickens that will work, but not the best.

I've tried the shredded paper, however it's not absorbant and after thinking it might work, I would rate straw and leaves superior.

Foghorn, its ok to give it a try and see what you think. I'm sure some folks thinks it's great.

Making your decision is what works for you.

Thanks Bigzio. Thats what I wanted to know. I will stick with shavings. Maybe I can use the paper for mulch in garden instead.
