YAY!! so glad you are keeping a pair!!!! And it will be a fun project figuring out coop/pen even though it seems stressful now!!! I felt the same way when I first decided to keep 2 of my chicks that hatched...fell in love and did not want to give them up!
Duck owners here should be able to help you figure out what they will need..you have some good room in your yard and I am thinking as long as you have a run and water play area/choice for them, your coop does not need to be very big? You can also see how they mature and behave to decide if you want them to roam the yard. I allow my chickens to roam around in the back and front yard. BUT, I don't leave them out when I am not home to supervise AND you need to know what predator dangers you have in your area. Here it is hawks and coyotes so a run that is predator proof keeps them safe when no one is home.
Just some thoughts..have fun!!!!
Im honestly thinking about just trying to sell the playhouse and putting a coop in that spot with a small run for when we're not home or on vacation. Im not sure how movable it is.. we'd have to take the fence down to get it out.. ugh. what a PITA, but id rather not have so many little buildings back there and I think the kids would honestly enjoy having the ducks more. The playhouse is so enclosed that im afraid if we just converted it, it would smell something awful.
I think they only real predators we have would be snakes. I haven't seen any but our house backs up to the woods. The only thing Ive seen in our backyard are bunnies and turtles in my garden.
