Shrink wrapped ducks?? What should I do?

Thanks .. I got them last yr as a big birthday present after i fell in live with the blue swedes... But then some died and two orders later we ended up with lots of ducklings... I really want some muscovies and pekins and magpies and every other breed avail lol

I have to say i love this title of this forum. Because we were dealing with JUST the opposite. LOL.. When they get sticky they are literally STUCK in that egg, they usually either give up OR sufficate. They can't remove that gooy stuff it's almost like super glue. When it dries up it's HARD as a rock... YEK, cleaning them off is the only way but it must be warm water otherwise they will get cold, you don't want them cold.... decreases there heart rate and makes them very very weak.. Keep them warm is the KEY for all Hatchings...

PLUS there are a lot of sites that say 80 to 90 but what people are NOT reading is this number is for Wet bulb, Most of us do not use a wet bulb, we simply go to walmart or whereever and get a regular gage which the readings are NOT going to be that high..

So as long as humidity is down, you'll be OK, also keep an eye on the readings they will CHANGE, as the weather changes....

So I am looking to update my hatching equipment...right now I have the typical school incubator....Styrofoam???? and my thermometer's only read temp not humidity. Until this year, I have had no problem with hatching. This year, sadly none of my ducks hatched...I do think it was a humidity problem

Many of my eggs became darker in color...but did not smell and I could see the ducks in there. I also had a challenge with the duck incubator with temp flexuating...my classroom temp is cold with air-conditioning and hot when they turn it off EXACTLY at 3pm. Made sure the incubators were not in a draft or by the windows. I am going to take that incubator to my local feed store where I get the eggs so they can evaluate my incubator and see if it is broken. The incubators with chicks and quails hatched just fine. I want to get a good thermometer....so can you recommend???? Also looking into an incubator should the one I have checked out be broken so looking for suggestions there too. I am a teacher...so not a lot of money but want good equipment so this doesn't happen again...sooooo sad

I got a digital hygrometer/thermometer at Walmart for $8 :)

Don't you just LOVE it!!! They are sooo sweet and friendly! They are hilarious to watch! My ducklings one time saw their bag of food outside the brooder and were trying everything they could to get to that bag!! I am surprised they didn't stand on top of eachother so the last little one could hop out and get it...LOL!! And they LOVE to snuggle up under your chin or on your chest
