Shy orpingtons

I have 2 chickens, both buff orpington hens, and they are about to lay. Ever since I got them (I've had them for about 4 weeks) they've been extremely shy and every time I get near them they run to the other side. Is this normal? Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

Yes this is normal. Have you tried giving them treats? I know mealworms are a favorite in my coop! They just go bonkers over that stuff!!!! Try giving them some fruit like watermelon (that's also a favorite!!). Once they sort to associate you with food they won't be so shy anymore.
